Club Committee

Club Chairman

Nigel Crompton

Formerly our Club Captain Nigel regularly attends club training sessions and has been a member of Pensby Runners since 2006.

He is a keen fellrunner competing across North Wales in the main but also the Lakes and further afield with events in the Alps and the infamous Marathon Des Sables.

He is a UK Athletics qualified running coach, Corrective Exercise Specialist (National Academy of Sports Medicine) and trained in the Anatomy in Motion method. He owns the local running store in Heswall, The Runners Hub where members are always welcome to pop in to discuss club business.

Club Secretary

Emily Astley

I joined Pensby Runners in 2015 as a non-runner.  At that point a 10k seemed a challenge.  In the last (nearly) 4 years, I’ve run half marathons, re-learned to swim, bought a nice road bike and have competed in numerous triathlons. Next year I’ll be running London Marathon.

The club is a fantastic source of support in getting fit and building confidence. I’ve made some great friends and challenged myself no end.   I am a mum of 2 young girls who are also now enjoying running and will most definitely be beating me before too long.

Club Captain and Membership Secretary

Andy Sumner – 07887 657471

Andy is the membership secretary and doesn’t know how to turn around when going for a run, owns a campervan and a dog which looks like a sheep. He spends his weekends ‘going long’ around the fells and trails of Britain.

Vice Chair

Ralph Pawling

Ralph has been a member of Pensby Runners since 2014.
He loves any kind of running, from 5Ks to ultra-marathons, to fell races, and slightly grudgingly cross country.  Although he now lives and works over the water in Liverpool, he likes the atmosphere and enthusiasm at the club so much that he’d rather make the weekly trip back to Heswall than train with a club in the city.  He organises the Road League and manages the club’s news and social media feeds.

Vice Captain

Dan Bruffell – 07736047175

Dan started running with friends which centred around a beer 1/2 way and then another at the end of the run. Since his running became more ‘serious’, these beer runs have dwindled. Dan can be seen on the road race circuits, Cross country, multi terrain and occasionally the fells; once his navigation skills are in order, more time will be spent off road as that’s where he likes to escape. Dan is willing to incorporate any distance into his running and is proud to possess medals for his efforts covering 5km to 80km. Whatever the distance/ discipline, Dan is always keen to take part and will be aiming to be as fast as he can. He joined Pensby Runners in 2018 and joined the Committee in a bid to give something back to something that has given him so much. Always keen to advise and help anyone who is willing to ask and listen. For such a miserable guy he’s quite a laugh and good company – have a chat and find out for yourself!

Honorary President

Roy Fisher was Chairman for about 20 years and a member since 1990-ish.

Roy has introduced many initiatives to the Club over the years, such as newsletters, email, Facebook, Twitter and created the first website. He also introduced the Club Handicaps and the now infamous Chairman’s Challenge. Pensby Runners looks as it does today due to Roys influence over the years.

He devised and organised the TuffNutz Endurance race at Thurstaston Country Park and was Race Director of the Wirral Seaside Runs for 180 races over 22 years. He himself has done 13 marathons (including one sub three hour) and was a sub-60′ 10 miler and a sub-30′ 5 miler. Also a keen swimmer and cyclist.

In 2020 when he stepped down from the Chair the title of Honorary President was bestowed upon him
