Pensby Summer Fell League – winners announced

Just 2 hardy Pensby Runners took part in the final race of the 2015 summer fell league – the tough Grisedale Horseshoe with 8 miles and 5,000 feet of ascent over Helvellyn and St Sunday Crag.
Andrew Sumner took first place over this grueller of a course with Tom Rutherford coming in second place.
But the overall league title for Summer 2015 goes to the Rutherfords – Tommy (doing every race in the series and proving it’s the taking part that counts) and Debbie are the league winners.
Notably, 36 Pensby Runners have taken part in the Summer fell league (25 men and 11 ladies) so we are going from strength to strength.
Winter League will commence on November 1st with the new course of the Clwydian Hills race and the rest of the winter season will be announced shortly.

Final results for Pensby summer fell league

The final race of the summer league saw only two Pensby turn up (Well, to run, anyway) for probably the toughest race of the season at 3 Shires on Saturday 20th September at Little Langdale. 12.4 miles and 4,003 ft. That’s a lot of climb over that distance.

Andy Sumner and Ian Shorrock (in his biggest fell race thus far) performed well but looked very relieved to see myself, Pat and my two daughters on the top of Lingmell where we’d walked up the meet them on their final descent. Charlotte then decided she wanted to do the final descent with them and chased them down the hill back to the village. Hope it didn’t confuse officials too much seeing a 10 year old running to the finish!

It’s been a successful league with 30 Pensby Runners taking part in at least one fell race. It was a shame to lose Tom Rutherford so early in the season and we hope he returns to the fells soon. Great to have newcomers Ralph and Lisa (well, new to the vest) joining us and hope to see some of the other first timers this season back soon Max, Paul, Cheryl.

A mention has to go to Andy Sumner who completed 14 out of 15 races this summer and was chomping at my heels toward the end.

Winners of the 2014  Summer league trophies for this year are Pat Peers and Nigel Crompton

See you all on the fells soon
