Whilst most of us just want to get out and enjoy running and exercising, we all like to improve and it can get boring doing the same distance at the same speed all the time. A structured training routine will avoid this and quickly show improvement. Some runners keep a diary or a computer log of all training runs. Others find this tedious. Try it and see. Personally I found that a heart rate monitor used with a schedule provided the most efficient and most beneficial effects.
