Now that it is almost ‘that’ time of year a quick reminder to all members (but to newer, and older forgetful, members in particular) that the club has had a tradition for some years that we do not exchange Christmas Cards among members but, instead, put a cash donation into the charity box at the Christmas party.
This years winter pub crawl around the hostelries of Heswall usually topped off by an Indian Meal will take place on the 27th November. Get the date into your diaries.
This years club Christmas do will take place at Heswall Squash Racquets Club on Friday 11th December. More details will follow shortly but get the date in your diaries.
Next year on June 26th 2016 is the Mont Blanc Marathon. During the week there is a 10k, a vertical km, a half marathon and an Ultra as well as the marathon. This is great race in the stunning French Alps with Chamonix coming alive with Runners from the elite to the not so elite over the course of the week. This year it is a draw for entry and registration closes in a week so you need to get a move on if you’re going to do it. This is a fantastic experience and there is something for everyone. Easy jet flights to Geneva with minibuses into Chamonix and Pat and I may have some limited spaces in an apartment in the centre of town. If you enter the code GRPC5737 when you register it means we enter as a Pensby group and stand or fall together in the draw. Don’t miss out sign up at http://www.montblancmarathon.net/en/
As part of Sydney Isaacs (Ruth’s daughter) fundraising for her medical volunteering in India she is holding a Curry(there will be a veggie option) and Quiz night at the Squash Club on Friday 8th of May at 8:00pm. The quiz won’t start until half past, so you all have time to shower after your run. Tickets will cost £8 and can be… bought from either Sydney (details below) or from Ruth Isaacs on a club night.
Steve Tilby has arranged the annual Christmas pub crawl around the hostelries of Heswall for Friday 28th November starting off in the Black Horse in the lower village at 7pm approximately. The evening will be capped off as usual with a meal at Heswall Tandoori.
It would be helpful if you could let Steve know – email@example.com – if you’re intending to eat as he negotiates our mass arrival with the restaurant owners.
The Squash Club has been booked for Friday December 12th for the Club Christmas ‘do’. There will be a bar until midnight and the intention is for a relatively low-key social gathering on ‘home ground’ this year. I would like to ask folk to bring a plate of savoury or dessert so we can cater for ourselves but may need a couple of volunteers to co-ordinate receiving and displaying the goodies that evening.
Andy Morley and I will prepare some music for dancing for those who wish to do so. It would help if you would send us a title or two of music that you will definitely dance to so we can include it if possible. An indication of numbers would be appreciated so we know how to arrange the venue and get adequate bar staff.
We will as usual have the London Marathon place draw, the Jack Lewis Trophy and presentations for the Road Race League and Summer Fell Race League winners. We will also be collecting for our two charities in lieu of Christmas cards within the Club.
Everyone, whether new or occasional members or regular long-standing die-hards and their partners, is welcome and we hope you will take the opportunity to see, meet and chat with other Club members with whom you don’t usually get the chance to do so.
More details will follow but at least you have the date. Just let me know if you are coming.
