Arrowe Park Cross-Country Race

It was a snowy one. I think the real heroes of the day were our club marshals who had to endure some pretty chilly weather on a soggy morning at Arrowe Park. For the 285 runners it was a little warmer after the first mile or so. But the ground conditions were as testing as I have known and it was a real challenge to keep the legs turning over.

We had 9 ladies and 16 gents line up for Pensby. Really great to see Helen Measures and Lucy Shayle completing their third XC races of the season. They are both lavished with points and the two are 1 point apart in the Pensby ladies League with Sarah Roberts chasing them down one point behind. Lisa, Carole, Steph, Ali, Catherine Howell and Lucy made sure we had strong ladies teams. The ladies were 2nd team on the day holding off rivals Helsby. The ladies hold 4th overall at the half way stage.

It’s a two way race in the gents league with Simon Rogers holding off defending champion Alistair Malpas by 2 points. Richard Shayle tweaked an ankle and dropped back from his usual position. We also welcomed John Hunt and nice to see Ciaran Lynch make an XC appearance again. Well done all the XC regulars as the gents hold their 9/22 position in the league overall.

Next XC race is the County Championships; back at Arrowe Park for our Mersyside members and Delamere Forest for our Cheshire set. Next league race is Town Park, Runcorn on sunday 14th January.
